Joan Allen And Albert Finney Sign On To Do Next 'Bourne' Film

Renner

First Posted: 7/27/11 02:22 PM ET Updated: 7/27/11 02:22 PM ET

A while back, when Jeremy Renner officially took the lead role in "The Bourne Legacy," the fourth installment of "The Bourne" series, screenwriter Tony Gilroy stated, "This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel."

And even though Gilroy was adamant in saying Renner will not be "replacing" Matt Damon, it will be a different movie. But that doesn't mean everything you loved about the "Bourne" series will be gone--expect to see some familiar faces.

Showblitz reports that seasoned "Bourne" actors Joan Allen and Albert Finney are both signing on to the next film.

In addition to Renner, the actors are working with a very impressive cast, with Edward Norton playing the villain, Oscar Isaac and Rachel Weisz.

Despite all the talent, the question remains, will "The Bourne Legacy" be able to survive without Jason Bourne?

Won't be the same without Matt Damon. He made that role what it is.

Not interested if Matt Damon is not starring

No - no disrespect to Jeremy Renner intended, the guy is awesome - it won't. The Bourne movies were one of only a handful of movie series that got better with each one. Matt Damon was the sole reason for that.

So, this guy is going to take over the Bourne series AND Mission Impossible??

By the way, I thought Renner will be taking over Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) in the Mission Impossible franchise. Any word on that?

It won't be the same without Jason Bourne and Matt Damon as Bourne. But Tony Gilroy's a heck of a screenwriter (if "Michael Clayton" isn't of any indication), he'll pull off this one just as well.

They should change the name. The original move series was as far from Ludlum's Bourne character as you could get. If they're going to use the same agency but focus on a new dude they should just drop the Bourne thing altogether.

I like Renner a LOT. He's extraordinarily talented and a great choice to take the Bourne series wherever it is going next. If anyone can pull it off, I think he can. I am looking forward to it.

they should call this one "The Bourne Redundancy"

I agree with Matt Damon. In an interview after the last Bourne movie he said that he and the director joked that if there was another Bourne film, it would have to be called "The Bourne Redundancy."

Renner is a good actor and has proven he can handle the tense, moody roles. Looking foward to seeing it.
